As we begin to introduce wellness options at Perricoota Vines with on site yoga classes and in room healing massage with Mi-Yoga's Ali Connelly, we thought it an opportune time to mention a sweet and very nourishing little find just over the bridge from us.
The Sweet Meadow is a brand new plant based, vegan health bar that opened in October 2016. Created by the ever so lovely, ever so clever, Kyabram born Aishe Besim, The Sweet Meadow is based on the core truth that plant-based food is medicine.
"Food should not been seen as something to just quickly eat to keep hunger at bay, but instead as something that can nourish and protect us, and help us get the best out of every day" she says.
This is no pop up experimental venture, rather a dedicated lifestyle experience catering to the increasingly popular philosophy of conscious living. Aishe's vision is to build a healthier community through awareness around the food we eat, our health and living sustainably. And she sees it through to the very last detail.
It's not just the beautifully presented (and hotdamn tasty) plant based meals and beverages (Aishe was the first to bring Melbourne's favourite, All Press Coffee to the region - a must try, and is one of the first in town to serve cold pressed juices), its the entire cafe experience. The detail Aishe has put into the establishment - from the hand crafted artistan ceramics and organic aloe vera and teas for sale on the far right shelves, to the gorgeous, beaming staff she's hired to serve, to the pastel pink walls and flourish of native flowers that embrace you on arrival, and even the design and health-conscious magazines she presents on the window sills. There is not one detail that isn't beautifully conceived and executed at The Sweet Meadow. Even the sustainable take away boxes and petite pink stickers that hold them together for those on the run hint at a particularly thoughtful, caring and wholistic charm.
For those who prefer your average everyday serve of dairy and meat, we would still recommend that you try this purely vegan experience. Their soy or coconut tumeric lattes are delectable to the tastebuds - as is their hearty, smashed avocado toast served with lemon, their brown rice sushi rolls, the grain free granola and baked donuts with dehydrated berries.
The Sweet Meadow puts pay to Jamison Scala's philosophy, “With veganism you give nothing up. You just stop taking that which is not yours.” The food here is ablush with flavour, substance and screams nourishment without compromising on taste.
The eatery is situated near the Bridge Hotel in the midst of the Port precinct; a lovely spot to drop into when strolling near the Wharf and Esplanade. The public garden walkway beside the cafe gleams with morning and afternoon sunlight through a weeping willow tree and is the perfect quiet corner for a casual outdoor experience, along with the vintage-inspired seating area at the front.
We highly recommend treating yourself to The Sweet Meadow. Join them on social media and check out their highly educational website.
